Dwarfs

No, this is not a cute dwarf. This dwarf is a warrior, the kind of warrior you might know from Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings". He might even be a dwarf king because he is sitting on a throne. 
Here in Germany we are used to see cute garden gnomes when we think of "dwarfs" - cute gnomes with happy faces holding gardening tools. Obviously AI Art generators interprete "dwarfs" differently...

This image was created on Nightcafe Studio with SDXL 1.0, the latest model. Look at the dwarf's hands: they are anatomically correct! Rendering correct hands has been one of the biggest problem with AI Art Generators. 

Henry VIII

This image of Henry VIII was created with the use of Nightcafestudio. Why on earth did I create such an image? Good question.

However, I have been reading "Wolf Hall" by Hilary Mantel, published in 2009. It is about Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn, but mostly it is about Thomas Cromwell.

Now, when I am reading a novel - in this case a historic novel - there's a movie running behind my eyes. I "see" the characters. Of course I know some of the paintings of Henry VIII created by Hans Holbein; but with AI Art Generators being a part of my life I thought: why not creating my own images? 

Here they both are: Anne Boleyn and Henry VIII. I haven't used google yet in order to find out whether there exists a painting by Hans Holbein similar to this image.

Having fun with traditional and AI Art

 For a long time I have been doing either this or that - which actually means that I have been doing AI Art since last November. In the month of July I have dabbled a bit with oil pastels, but then was happy to return to AI Art. 

On last Friday however I could not resist grabbing my acrylic paints. They are called "Home Acrylics" and could be considered "craft" paints. They are beautifully soft and creamy, and when I painted I loved how the brush glided over the paper with the paint on it. I really enjoyed the process. Here is the result:

I only used two colours - Fir green and arctic. I used them both as they came out of the bottle but also mixed them. I used watercolor paper as surface.

When I had finished the painting, I went back to the AI Generator Nightcafe Studio and used the scan as starter image.

I created several images with the image above as starting image. Here is one of the results: A mushroom pattern. As you can see Nightcafe Studio used the same color scheme to create this pattern.

I must say that I love how the image turned out. I can see me painting abstract acrylic images and then using them for many different variations with AI Art.

Flamingoes created with Clipdrop AI

 

Clipdrop AI makes it easy to render a certain subject in various styles.

Here, for example, we have a flamingo rendered as an Origami product. Origami is one of the many styles you can choose from on ClipDrop.

Oil pastel painting and AI Art

This is one of the oil pastel paintings I did a few days ago. I am still experimenting with blending and using color combinations. 

In addition to paint in a traditional way I am still doing AI Art, at the moment primarily on Nightcafe Studio. As I mentioned before in one of my blog posts you can use images as starter images. So I thought why not use one of my own paintings? 

This is the first result. I find it interesting how much of the original image can still be discovered in the AI generated image. Here the movement is still to be seen, but other than that is is quite different.

So I decided to change the impact of the prompt and lower it. 

As you can see the image is more similar to the original painting. It is for you to decide which one you like more!

Painting with oil pastels

 It has been a long, long time since I touched my oil pastels. It is funny how sometimes a happy accident can change things and habits: Yesterday I watched a video with the title "Painting with my host hated medium - oil pastels" (this is a translation, the original video is in German) and decided to take my heart into my hands and bite the oil pastel bullet.

So I grabbed my container with 24 oil pastels, a sheet of watercolor paper, a tiny container with odorless mineral spirit and some q-tips.

You can see the result on the left hand side. I think it is not too bad, considering the fact that I haven't done anything with this medium for such a long time. The only thing I want to change is the use of the odorless mineral spirit - it is not that odorless I have to admit. So I searched the web for an alternative. You will hear more about that in my next blogpost.

Geishas

Geishas are a fascinating aspect of Japanese culture. They are skilled traditional entertainers who specialize in various Japanese arts such as classical music, dance, and games. Geishas are known for their distinct appearance, including elaborate hairstyles, beautifully embroidered kimonos, and white makeup.

They emerged in the 18th century as female entertainers. In order to become a Geisha girls had to undergo a very strict training in an apprenticeship. 

In modern Japan the number of Geishas has declined, but efforts are being made to preserve this unique cultural heritage.

By the way, I created this image of a beautiful lionfish using an AI Art Generator. For a few months now I have been creating AI Art designs for my Zazzle shop - this lionfish design was one of the first.

Coloring Page: African Mask

 

For some days now coloring digitally has become a more or less daily activity. I enjoy it very much and it has taught me a few things:

1. How to create my own coloring pages with AI Art Generators: There is an AI Art Generator which specialises on creating coloring page - however with the proper prompt you can get line art pages with almost every AI Art Generator.The lineart for the mask on the left was created with Blue Willow.

2. How to set up a coloring page in Gimp by creating an alpha channel: There are a few very good youtube tutorials which explain the necessary steps in an easy to follow way, so I will not go into detail here.

3. How to find the proper color combinations
I tend to use too many colors. There is a very good book called "The complete Color Harmony, Pantone Edition" which gives many examples of color combinations. All of these color combinations consist of only three colors, not more, with one color being the dominant one. I must say this is something I have to learn.

And not to forget: I think coloring a page also has a very relaxing and almost meditative side to it!

Lucius Lemon

Here is Lucius Lemon. He has to wear glasses, but nevertheless enjoys playing baseball 

As you can imagine he is not so keen on playing basketball because of his size, but baseball is absolutely okay. Look at his face - what a happy little guy he is!

I must admit that I love creating those characters with AI Art Generators. I also love to think of stories with these characters. AI Art Generators do not do all the work - you have to imagine these characters in your mind first and then think of a good prompt to have them created according to what it is in your mind.
